Library of the School of Education

 

The School’s library is located on the ground floor of the “old” building, in a space measuring 430 square meters. It was founded in 1991 with the aim of meeting the needs of the two Education Departments that make up the School of Education. Today, its collection numbers more than 35,000 books, while it also has documents on local history and tradition, as well as a rich collection of literary works. Part of its material comes from the library of the former “Zarifios Pedagogical Academy” and the “Theodoros Kastanos” Teaching Academy.

 

The library consists of the following sections:

  1. Bookstore with a special section for books and publications on Thrace
  2. Loaning section
  3. Magazine, newspaper, and map section
  4. Computer section
  5. Audiovisual material section
  6. Study hall
  7. Material organization and process section.

 

The library is open to students and academic staff, while teachers and scientists from the region, as well as researchers from other universities that collaborate with Democritus University of Thrace, can also gain access.The library provides online access to HEAL-LINK scientific journals and other databases, the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of the Central Library, the Union Catalogue of Academic Libraries, ZEFYROS, and Argos platforms. It also provides access to specific scientific fields through thematic portals created as part of the “PROMETHEUS II” program. Material can be searched via OPAC from the website of the University’s Central Library (www.lib.duth.gr).

 

The library is open daily from Monday to Friday, according to a schedule announced at the beginning of the academic year on the library’s website.The library’s administration issuesare supervised by a three-member committee consisting of faculty members of the School of Education.
