| · Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to:
1. Recognize the alphabet of the visual language, and use it to compose their own images-visual compositions, expressing their creativity and transmitting their own messages to the viewer. They will also be able to evaluate their compositions according to specific criteria (MA8) 2. Be able to observe, describe, analyze and interpret the phenomena of our visual culture in visual terms, in order to exploit them with an interdisciplinary approach in school lessons. (MA4) 3. Apply artistic techniques and use the appropriate materials and tools to express thoughts and feelings as well as to evaluate the expected result. (MA8) 4. To use the works of art of various eras and artistic currents to obtain and consolidate the knowledge in the subjects of the school program. (intersectionality). (MA4) 5. To exploit important artistic currents of European culture and the work of important representatives of them, in relation to the society and culture that gave birth to them. (M6) 6. Understand that art and visual expression are an important way of expression and communication between people, but also a means of acquiring and consolidating knowledge at school. (MA5) 7. To be able to collaborate and communicate in a creative way through the possibility of non-verbal communication offered by the visual arts. (MA5) 8. - COURSE CONTENT
| The course has an experiential character and seeks to acquire practical knowledge, practical skills and competences related to personal and professional development. The purpose of the course is to introduce the basic elements of artistic formation. Specifically, the 13 three-hour sessions are as follows:
1. Introduction. Elaborating key questions with a following-up discussion: What is art. Its necessity in our lives. Purpose of teaching Art Education at school, objectives of the course. Creativity. First meeting with team members. 2. Experiential workshop: A circle of acquaintance, the visual game as a means of communication and enhancement of linguistic expression. Drawing and painting as a symbolic language. 3. Introduction to the basic elements of visual design: Software projection by the Pedagogical Institute. 4. Experiential workshop: Compositions only with points, with points and lines, with points, lines and shapes, listening to music. Presentation and commentary of the projects. 5. Editing of themes from the book by Olga Kozakou Tsiara, Introduction to visual elements, with power point. 6. Observation of works of art, from the Antiquity to the present day. Selection of an image from the visual material for individual editing. Discussion on the basic questions of approach to the work of art. Drawing and painting on the occasion of the works while listening to music. 7. Color and its teaching. Definition. The importance of color in our lives. Characteristics-properties of paint. Basic and complementary, auxiliary or neutral colors. Nuance and tone. Colors and emotions. The seven color contrasts. Colors and Culture. Color therapy, art therapy. 8. (9. 10.) Three three-hour experiential workshops with practical applications-color teaching activities. Presentation of the “Indicative teaching programme for one academic year at school”. 11. History of art: Main European artistic movements and periods, with emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries. Important artists and their work: Utilization of works of art in school with an interdisciplinary approach. View images with power point. 12. Free drawing, composition exercises with pencil, perspective visualization of space. 13. Preparation for the exams, with emphasis on composition, color and the main artistic movements. Presentation of indicative works of students and discussion on the evaluation criteria of their artistic compositions for the purpose of self-evaluation.

Evaluation criteria (weight) 1. In artistic compositions-works: Artistic quality, imagination, creative energy (Balanced composition, qualitative use of visual elements, original and complete theme, wealth of contrasts). (45%) 2. Written exams: Accuracy and completeness of answers, appropriate use of terminology and relevance to the subject (25%) 3. Attendance, class participation, positive behavior in class, cooperation. (30%)
